Fasting Blood Tests!

Walked up to Asda this morning - needed a 'fasting' blood test. Guess what - they would not do it because I had had a cup of black tea!

I knew I had to avoid food - hence black tea - because they were to check cholesterol levels, among other things - but - since when is there cholesterol in black tea?

Have to go back again tomorrow in dawn's early light! Ah well - it's a mile each way - so think of all the calories I will burn!!

Re: Fasting Blood Tests!

I had my annual GP blood test recently for all sorts including blood sugar ... no fasting required anymore, I was told, there's a new technique.

Very strange. My wife was told by the nurse last week that they don't do fasting blood tests anymore. Oh well, just another difference of medical opinions i suppose.

I think the stimulatory effects of the black tea may interfere with the results.

Depends what they are testing for.

For the last ten years for my condition I have been told do not take any thing 12 hours before the test except water.

It compromises the test if you do so it makes it useless.

Would think only for her condition she was being tested for and not other conditions
