Re: Female Genital Mutilation Education

A mother who mutilated (that's the only word for it) her three year-old daughter by carrying out FGM on her has been jailed for eleven years. It should have been longer. To me, this ranks as the same as that bastard who threw acid on his son - both children permanently scarred for life.

Will this sentence act as a deterrent or merely move this abhorrent act to be performed in a different country? Perhaps people who do take their girls overseas to have this act of barbarity performed on them should not be allowed to return back to the UK. If this was made clear to all who intended to do this unspeakable thing perhaps they would be deterred from doing it?

Re: Female Genital Mutilation Education

I read in my paper today that this so-called 'Mother' who is 37, also got a further 2 years for indecent images and extreme pornography.
Her ex-partner was cleared of involvement in the FGM apparently.

Hrmmmm.

FGM, sometimes called Female Circumcision* which it is NOT, is not simply a tradition, and while not a strict dictate under shar'ia is a real issue that having been approved of by Old Mo is viewed as being highly desirable.

Having been approved by "The Perfect Man" it has become desirable especially when the supposed health benefits are brought into play.

* Female circumcision. Google clitoral hood reduction, is poles apart from FGM and can be beneficial in the case where the hood is restricting as is the case of phimosis for men.

Not bad for a grumpy old physisist eh!

Sadly some parents resist sex education for their kids I can't imagine they will be willing to let them have these lessons either. Just the other day a school stopped educating the children in an age appropriate way because parents complained. Time every child got proper education on all of this IMO.

Re: Female Genital Mutilation Education

have you ever asked your female Muslim friends what their opinion is on FGM Julie ?

While FGM is not an Islamic requirement it is undoubtably more prevelant in Muslim society .

And others that have a medieval mindset

In this case the mother came from Uganda.

Ah the joys of cultural diversity !

Yes, I read about those parents kicking off and keeping their kids off school in protest.

They obviously don't want their children to be influenced or educated into the British way, so why send them to a British school?

My muslims friends are as shocked and against FGM as I am Muddy it's not a Muslim problem if you look around the world most Muslims don't do this, it's a cultural problem in a few places, not generalised at all. If you knew anything about Muslims you'd know that.

It's madness but I do wonder if it wasn't called sex education would it be more acceptable ? I know some of the parents at local school were unhappy until they realised it was age appropriate and until children were ready sex wasn't actually on the curriculum, it was more about friendships and equality until then.

As I have lived among them for a huge part of my life I do know about it and have discussed it .
They DO do this .
Although many of more enlightened are against this .

A cultural problem in a few places -are you kidding ?
Like a huge part of Africa and FGM also does take place in the Far East in Malaysia and Pakistan .

We don't want these disgusting practices carrying on here .
