Some interesting potential travel consequences of a no deal Brexit.
In the event of a possible no deal Brexit happening on the 29th March the Guardian Newspaper reports that UK travellers travelling to Europe the next day will face the following regulatory travel arrangements/changes:
1. If driving into Europe you will need a green card from your insurer and an international driving permit at a price of £5.50. Different ones are needed for France and Spain.
2. All UK Health Insurance Cards cease to be valid so buying travel insurance becomes essential.
3. Visa free travel will end paving the way for possible £55-90 a day visas.
4.Flight Compensation? Whilst the UK Government has promised it will keep EU flight delay payouts this does nothing to prevent airlines from using the inevitable changes to fight having to pay out.
5. Pets? The EU Pasport Scheme will end for all UK Travellers. What this means is that Cat and Dog owners will be required to show that their animals are healthy by producing new documents to support their pets health when arriving in the EU.
UK travellers will also have to demonstrate that their pet has been effectively vaccinated against rabies by undergoing a rabies antibody titration test at least 30 days post inoculation and no fewer than 3 months ‘before’ entering the EU. Pets will also be required to travel with an Animal Health Certificate issued by an officially ‘registered’ vet.
6. Mobile phone roaming charges? Whilst phone companies say they have no plans to reintroduce roaming charges they have not ruled them out either.
7. Pension? Whilst private pension arrangements have been sorted, retirees to Europe should have serious concerns about the future of State pensions.
