I used to use a top of the range Photoshop for free until a Windows update wiped it out. Now I use Gimp which is fine for most things but a bit 'sticky' compared to PS.

I have not really used that one but the reviews sound OK
It's got a lot of features, but I can't find a pixellation tool, strangely.
Unless I'm missing something obvious!

oh damn! No good then.

Seriously, I got it, and it does have a pixel tool, so thanks.
One annoying thing is that it doesn't list my albums in the order I have them on my iPad, which means the album I use most is right at the bottom and I have to scroll like mad for it!

It might prove too annoying, but we'll see.

Thanks for the info!

Ok horizon not exactly level or is it????

What do you think about the photo?, be as honest as you like
Yes the horizon is virtually level, less than 1 deg. out.

Composition/framing is not bad ... yes perhaps a smidge off the left.

The sky and the breakwater, both a real bonus.

Overall ... not bad for a mobile phone.

But if you are using that arm-and-a-leg full frame Nikon DSLR, you should be taking the game up a level:-

1. focus point .... the breakwater would be a nice subject.

2. aperture .... nice 'n small ... sharpness across the range and prevent glare.

3 white balance .... try different settings, maybe a warm yellow.

4. shutter speed .... try it slow for the misty/silky water effect.

5 ISO ... keep in low

6. Exposure Value .... I can't imagine what the light conditions were like, looks like early or late in the day, the sand is completely black!

Anyway, click the links for the sort of thing I'd have gone for.

Re: undecided photo ??

I wonder if it was taken at a slightly lower angle if the breakwater would be more in silhouette.

Re: undecided photo ??

One thing I don't like is milky water movement done by long exposure, it is not what the eye sees.you loose the ripples in the water. To me that is totally wrong

OK milky water imaginary is a bit old hat poncy.

But what about focusing on the breakwater wood grain or even a pebble on the beach with all that glorious sky as a kind of in-focus backdrop?

Time for a reshoot speedy.
