Spot on

Also, unlike other closed forums where you generally just need to register, our Members Only section requires you to have posted at least 25 times and have been registered for 3 months (the latter can be skipped if a current member vouches for the new member).

Re: Open Forum or Closed Forum?

That's where good moderation comes into play, too many forums become personal fiefdoms with the owner ignoring bad behaviour from people they like.

I can't see how it makes much difference. If people want to engage in trollish behaviour I think they will do so whether the forum is open or closed.

You probably wouldn't think it would make a difference Ania genuine people are the same everywhere and it isn't always obvious to the casual eye but I have observed people behaving quite differently on the two types of sites.

Ooer, how odd. Fancy having to remember which forum you're on before you know how to post. Seems a bit weird to me, like Jekyll & Hyde.
Guess it takes allsorts.

Re: Open Forum or Closed Forum?

One good thing about open forums is they are a source of information for people .

I have used a health sites and would never have found the information I was looking for had the site been closed.

I haven't seen bad mods on the forums I'm on ........ Some folk obviously choose the wrong forums. We've all done it as some time.......

I'm always amazed that people have the time to be on more than one forum, it takes all my spare time just to keep up on this one......

Re: Open Forum or Closed Forum?

I belong to quite a few different forums (another older persons, gardening, AV, The Professionals, to name but a few), but always gravitate/return to who I consider to be my closest friends...the OFFs. I'm on here all day, on and off.

The other ones get almost forgotten, until I go through my password list and think 'oooh, not visited you for awhile.'

As for the debate...I have no preference.
