UK Nuclear Free

Lot of chat on radio this morning about whether UK should be nuclear free what do you think? I say keep it with all the unrest in the world nowadays ISIS for instance not to mention many others just waiting for this idiotic government to make such a move. This country needs a deterrent after all lets face it our armed forces have been heavily cutback.

Yes I think it would be a very bad idea if we went nuclear free. We need the deterrent more so than ever now.
I dont see us ever being nuclear free in the climate there is in the world right now.

Not yet for reasons already stated, also believe we should be building replacing our power stations until we can realistically get more green methods on board and functioning efficiently.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

We need to be building more npower plants and not arms, no matter what threatens us I cannot see aiming and firing at innocent people (which is what these things do) is in anyway a good or decent idea.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

The UK government is pursuing two contradictory policies:

1. Keep Trident with its ability to fire nuclear missiles

2. Stop other countries acquiring these systems so as to avoid nuclear proliferation.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

I just can't see Britain going Nuclear free for the foreseeable future. Whilst so many unstable regimes are already Nuclear, or attempting to become so, it would be IMO foolhardy at best. No we need the threat even if we would never have the intention to use.

"no matter what threatens us I cannot see aiming and firing at innocent people" - isn't that what might happen to us?
As long as any potential enemy has or is developing nuclear weapons, we should maintain a retalliatory capability.
