As long as any potential enemy has or is developing nuclear weapons, we should maintain a retalliatory capability.
Which is why everyone disarming their nuclear capacity is important.

Doesn't mean we can't lead by example, and we should be talking to them to try to persuade them it's a good idea.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

Is this the same person you're wanting to persuade by talking?.....

"North Korea's defence minister has been publicly executed with an anti-aircraft gun for falling asleep during military meetings and answering back to leader Kim Jong-Un."

Disarming might be a good idea, but being recklessly niave isn't.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

SIGHS serious question and I get silly reply I'll ask again Where will the waste be kept. I have a grandchild I love and want to have a safe and happy life. Her suffering radiation sickness is not something I want to leave as an inheritance to her or future generations. Will somebody tell me sensibly where can nuclear waste be safely stored for a few centuries ?

I suggest adding to the problem is passing the buck to our grandchildren and I find that a selfish and unloving thing to do.

Re: UK Nuclear Free

Scotland has ambitious (perhaps over ambitious) plans for the provision of renewable energy. Currently the target is the equivalent of 100% annual electricity consumption by 2020 with an interim target of 50% by this year.

I'd rather see a load of wind turbines than more coal fired or nuclear power stations.
