I agree it's cronyism but wasn't it ever thus with every party since "reform"started in 1997?
Whilst I completely agree that the whole shambolic system that is the HoL needs to be diminished by at least 80% and a complete overhaul of it's powers is long overdue, Cameron's immediate problem is that the Lords is stuffed full of people seeking revenge against the tories because they won the election. These are now in the majority in the Lords thanks to the cronyism of previous governments, and are preventing most of the legislation promised in the conservative manifesto for no reason other than sour grapes.
The overiding paradox though, is that reform of the Lords is impossible without the agreement of the Lords, and that would be as likely to happen as turkeys voting for Christmas. Where is Guy Fawkes when you most need him.....
