Check - before you buy
Watched a docu last night about a 'repossession man'.He repossesses cars for finance companies.
There were 2 tragic stories, one guy bought a car for his son, only to have it repossessed because the previous owner had taken out a loan using the car as callateral. The 2nd was an older man, he purchased from a 'very nice woman' only to find she too had taken out a loan, he had to pay the repo man - £750 to 'keep' his car !
The moral of the story as we were told, is to do the HPI check on any car you are thinking of buying privately, it cost £15 to do the check rather than the hundreds you will have to pay to 'keep' your purchase.
Its the 'new' owner that is liable for the debt !

I watched both episodes of this. Very sad when it's genuine: it's the deliberate defaulters that I have no pity for. Was it on the show that a lady's partner left her and the debts cos the car wasn't paid for and she begged repo man not to take it?However I wasn't impressed that he goaded victims or their relatives when they made a stand off, or when he turned physical without the need to.

I too was sad for this particular lady, but thats not the finance companys fault, its the brute that put her in that position... As with the other cases..On 'Repo' man himself, I felt the same as you - but changed my mind when you see what he comes up against, you cant blame his attitude, he has to be 'hard'. But, what a great dad and a talented man to boot !
