Talking of chandeliers ... there was a programme on tv a few years ago about the cleaning processes in one of the grand houses. Apparently they used gin to clean the chandeliers !!!!! I'd use stardrops and save the gin for later

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

I met some lovely friendly local people in Rothsay

I went to a dance one afternoon because it was raining and got a wonderful welcome ... I felt as though I was a missionary because they wanted to know all about the dancing I did at home

As long as it's gin they use to clean the chandeliers and not New Zealand Sauvignon blanc it's ok with me

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

I shall always remember my first ever trip up to Wick some twenty years ago. Firstly it was a hell of a drive, taking around fourteen hours. More importantly, I couldn't understand a single word anyone was saying to me, except for my wee Granddaughter who had lived in South London for her first few years.

My ex sister-in-law came from Edinburgh but had lived in England since being a teenager. She spoke with a lovely Scottish accent but my goodness when she got together with her family I couldn't understand a word

I have more than enough problems with my Granddaughter when she comes to visit. Perfect English..well almost, for a four year old..when she moved to Wick. Now I need a translator when she visits.
