Re: Treat This As Priority MOD!!

From a 2018 RUSI REPORT.
The First Sea Lord

https://www.gov.uk/government/speech...wer-conference

The responsibility for our national deterrent vested in the Royal Navy, both nuclear and conventional, overlaid on top of our continuing mission to secure our sea lines of communication and our critical national infrastructure, will need to draw on credible military capability with sufficient versatility to face the full spectrum of threats we face, and sufficient strength to win in a peer-on-peer contest should that be required, almost certainly in conjunction with our allies and partners.

And that response of course starts with the Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers, which will soon sit at the head of a globally deployable balanced fleet.

A fleet that comprises a self-contained force capable of operating under and on water, in the air, from the sea to the land, and with partners and allies through space and cyberspace.

A fleet that is going to carry the heart of our nation’s expeditionary strike capability – the F35B Lightning jets around which the carriers are designed. But also to carry our Royal Marines Commandos - the only land force capable of credible, high tempo, high readiness intervention from the sea in all environments and in arduous conditions.

A fleet that will bring a world-beating suite of capabilities, sensors and weapons like the Radars in our Type 45 destroyers, the new Sea Ceptor Missiles in our Frigates that have just been declared in service today as you’ve heard.

As I highlighted earlier, the platforms that we are building now will be pretty much ones we will be operating in 2035.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
You are quite correct. In fact, we could do exactly the same without any come back just by informing the EU that these vessels are strategically important for our defence. I think that is how the Frogs are getting round the rules on this one.

Sounds very ambitious, but also very, very expensive Vlad ?
When you consider we cant even provide lunch for a few kids for
one month every year ??
And the aircraft carriers are so vulnerable we wont dare to use
them in anger !!
Unfortunately we have built them now?
Far better to built really good coastal protection vessels in enough
numbers to count??

Donkeyman! 🤔🤔

And submarines.

Yes, there are surveillance aircraft that can track submarines, to an extent, but although submarines can't 'fly the flag', they can be very effective against surface vessels in a war. Often, the target vessel will have no idea of its presence... until it's too late.

Indeed very expensive, savings will be made by getting rid of 20,000 soldiers, most if not all the main battle tanks and selling off some RAF airfields from what I gather The First Lord evaded or avoided any question of cost
We are an island race, we need a Navy

Yes, we don't need an army for anything much other than home defence.

Unfortunately, our politicians seem to like poking their noses into other people's business in foreign lands.

Not really as large and as cumbersome as navies of times past though.
And none of the navies anywhere has any protection from the newer global weaponry like hypersonic missiles.
These can wipe a vessel out before it knows there even is a missile incoming.

Technology costs less and is in many ways more effective; drone aircraft are a great example and in future we will see a network of protection in space.
Don't pooh-pooh that latter; we are already leaders in nano-satellite technology and mapping as well as laser technology.

There's little point in waving your big appendage about when it could be cut in half (and worse) before you even know it's under threat.
