The £144 is obviously based on today's rates. So you will be £1.45 short on what you need to live on TODAY
In 2017 it will be more due to inflation!

Re: New £144 Pension rate masks stealth cuts

I worked part time no company would let me join their pension scheme and no company my husband worked for (HGV DRIVER) ever had a company pension policy, by the time it became compulsary he was over 50 so had to stay in serps, which was a shame cos he was in one for 2 yrs then told he was too old and had to come out. When he retired he drew £48.04p a month and I now get half, not bad for 2 yrs contributions. He died aged 67 but I get part of his State Pension though I don't understand how it works.
Anyway new rules won't apply to me so won't bother it's bad enough trying to sort out DWP now.

I am sorry your husband died at 67.
It just shows extending the state pension age to 67 and beyond is morally wrong!

My partner died at 54. You can't base a system on the sad cases where people die before thair time. The reality is that people are generally living longer and the state cannot support that unless it does something.

It's all very well extending the working years if you're sat at a desk in an office...
But what about the guy digging holes in the road for a living? We might live longer but our bodies are still beyond their prime physically.
The MPs dreaming this up don't know what a shovel looks like.

I think some consideration should be given to those in heavy manual jobs who due to wear and tear of their body parts can no longer carry out the same job of work in later life. Very few posts exist for these people.

Re: New £144 Pension rate masks stealth cuts

I thought I was drawing maximum pension having paid full stamp for over 47 years, but I only get £142+ a week, not £144?

If people can't survive on that, and I know I can't, they should continue to work if they're able. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to be able to put my feet up after working for almost 48 years, but I can't afford to, and each year that passes gets harder and harder.
