Running & Arthritis

I've just heard on tonight's news that now they are starting a 15 year survey to find out for sure whether running/jogging causes arthritis of the knees later in life.

Health fanatics beware!

Re: Running & Arthritis

What's the betting that they will take 15 years to confirm that wear and tear occurs with use…leading to arthritis.

Stands to reason all that wear and tear is going to have some sort of negative benefit to your joints

I believe they thinking along the lines of most of the running is on hard pavements too.

I only heard the tail end of it, but I think they were looking for volunteers for the trials. Where are you MKJ ???

Re: Running & Arthritis

I have rarely been a runner but always a long distance walker. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and I will share the damage. I can still hoof a good 8-10 miles some days. But my right ankle has been going for some years. The other is perfect. But on the right side after a workout there is visible swelling and the sensation of several sharp rods through my heel and straight through the joint. Tired of the limp, hope doc has a cure.

Re: Running & Arthritis

When diagnosed with RA many decades ago, the young consultant looked out the window and said 'well, jogging's out for a start!'

Never forgotten that advice.
