Re: Red wine.

I think finding a good wine is down to trial and error.

I would never buy a cheap wine, by the time you have paid for the bottling proceeds you are left with little more than vinegar.

I go for 'buyers choice' and genuine reductions ie a wine that was a lot more expensive the previous week and is only on offer for a short time.

Waitrose are very good at wine, they will have a week when there is 25% of everything then is the time to stock up.

Carol the dimple (punt) at the bottom of the bottle is supposed to strengthen the bottle.

I find good areas for wine are Australia and Chile.

Re: Red wine.

Meg why do you say you would never buy a cheap wine?
Never say never!
I suppose it depends what you regard as cheap?

Aldi's cheap wines win 43 awards at International Wine Challenge http://dailym.ai/1PiLaAM

There's a list of wines if you scroll down

Ruthio I say that because I have bought a few cheap bottles in my time and a lot of it went down the drain. I find that spending a bit more ups the quality considerably.

We don't have Aldi around here so I can't say what their wine is like.

Re: Red wine.

I usually look at the reviews on the Waitrose website - however, my choice is limited as I tend to only buy organic wine.. so I have tried most myself.

These are two of my faves:

I also recommended Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot - as both are excellent antimicrobials.

Yes Merlot was always My fav' red though it's a very rare occasion I imbibe these days..I had a couple of glasses Yesterday at a Family Birthday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed them...But as in the past it affects My arthritic joints adversely, and Today I'm having to rest up as I'm in quite a lot of pain..hey ho...it was worth it ;~)

I just have never been impressed with them, I consider them to be very much overrated.... Chiantis and Rioja's in particular.

Haha! Yes! I'm amused you've been puzzled! It's a photo I took earlier this year of my new earrings my daughter gave me, my other daughter in Australia wanted to see what they looked like, not very clear, just thought it was a bit of fun I suppose you'd call it a wonky selfie
