No it isn't. There IS NO state pot. The State Age Related Benefit has to be paid out of the current year tax take.

Same thing isn't it, we paid our taxes and NI contributions to help fund the Age Related Benefit when we were working so it is reasonable to expect the same when we retire.

True. But it's only sustainable if the total amount of tax in is greater than the total amount being paid out. Unfortunately, increased life expectancy is upsetting the apple cart.

Not really. The SARB really should be targeted to those who need it having run out of their own resources, not to everyone just for having passed a certain age.

Re: State pension scandal …

Our state pensions are almost totally wiped out in income tax paid on our company pensions.

Pity you didn't respond to my earlier post, but hey ho.

One could argue that paying one's taxes is equivalent to buying an investment such as a house, and that in effect, one is releasing the capital from it in the form of a pension.

What would happen following your arguement is those with property would sell up, have a great time spending the money from it then claim they need state help.

Wow that would mean I could go on several world cruises in the most expensive cabins. Oh no second thoughts why not fly first class around the world seeing different countries in total luxury.

When all the money is spent i could then go cap in hand to the govermment pleading poverty and be given housing -food- clothing etc all at the states expense .

Costing far more than the pension i would have got.

Great idea . That has shot your theory right down the toilet pan

That has shot down your reasoning totally
Not at all. Means testing would take account of such things that would obviously take place and would affect the amount and nature of aid provided.

There is no easy way out of this quandary but the certainty is that there will HAVE to be huge changes in providing social care in the very near future.

Re: State pension scandal …

So according to you I should leave nothing to my children leaving them to struggle on state aide entirely.

Following your arguement again. Nobody should work as the state will support them . Do wake up some time and face reality
