Too fishy for me

Whenever my mother was feeling "off", she used to say that the only thing she could eat was "a nice piece of fish, poached in milk". And I always used to think, I hope I never feel that off.

She didn't poach it in her teapot, btw. Although I suspect it wouldn't have been beyond her to poach it in ours.

I poach haddock for fish pie, with other fish, and peas. Easy to do, the stock makes a lovely sauce.

I was going to have fish for dinner as it happens, so this is an idea...poached haddock, mash and peas. Lovely!

You almost sound proud of it, May. Don't you care what people might think?

Is there a conspiracy going on here that I know nothing about?

Is it an underground movement, or what?

If you’d lived further south Harbal your mum might have been called The Lincolnshire Poacher.
