Coleman said it was "common knowledge" among Conservatives that Heath had been given a stern warning by police when he underwent background checks for the post of Privy Councillor.[99] Heath's biographer Philip Ziegler wrote in 2010 that Coleman was able to provide "little or no information" to back up this statement, that no man had ever claimed to have had a sexual relationship with Heath, nor was any trace of homosexuality to be found in his papers

Who knows? Politicians are notorious for closing ranks.

Not with Heath .
He was not a popular or social man
Common knowledge would appear to be malicious gossip.

Just like common knowledge about Jimmy fixed me? Or Michael Barrymore? Or Wacko Jacko?

Red Herring AD
This has nothing to do with smearing the name of innocent people .
There is absoutely no evidence whatsoever that Ted Heath lived anything but an exemplary life .

Also people tend to believe the rumours more readily about those they don't like, about who they don't agree with, those who are a different colour, creed or political view, those who are wealthy, or those were educated at Eton. you only have to look at lies spread about Brexit or Boris even.
Because the alleged abusers were right-wing and came from privileged backgrounds so he decided to stick the boot in?

He should be sacked and prosecuted for slander and libel. Has he even made an apology to his victim's families?

Re: The Carl Beech fiasco

The irony is that Ted Heath didn't come form a traditionally Tory background-his father started life as a carpenter
He was a clever child and his mother was ambitious for him to do well.
His problem was his unfortunate cold and off putting personality.
.The police who are always moaning about lack of resources have wasted money on pursuing Heath who had few friends and no family to defend his name . The ease with which an innocent man’s reputation has been destroyed should shock anybody for whom justice matters .
While Edward Heath may not have been a likeable character it's horrible the way his reputation has been trashed with no evidence to the extent the police were reduced to asking people in the street to come forward .
An invitation to every crank and opputunist against a dead man who can not defend himself .

As for the elderly military men the police should hang their heads in shame.

Re: The Carl Beech fiasco

Of course, all the Police and Reporters and BBC who were completely taken in and did not do their job properly were never made to account for their mistakes.

As usual, some have been rewarded and had salary increases and promotion as well.

Can't be bad!

I thought out of the goodness of my heart I'd put this excellent piece up by Britain's finest columnist - for those interested who missed it:

Beech is being sent down for 18 years (on the face of it).

Meanwhile Tom Watson remains at large.

Re: The Carl Beech fiasco

It is quite right that any such accusations are taken seriously and investigated, but not in the way that this was, especially as there were considerable cover-ups for Cyril Smith, Rolf Harris, and Jimmy Saville
