Test and Trace failed to reach 30,000 people who tested positive for coronavirus

https://www.cityam.com/test-and-trac...ore-christmas/

Latest official figures showed that 232,169 people tested positive for Covid at least once between 17 and 23 December, of which 211,914 were transferred to the government’s contact tracing scheme.

However, Test and Trace failed to reach 27,178 people who tested positive to tell them to self-isolate. A further 2,826 people with Covid did not provide the scheme with contact details.
The figure marks a significant increase on the previous week, when the government app failed to reach 16,553 people who tested positive with Covid.

The figures mean more than 30,000 Covid-infected people were not told to self-isolate just days after the health secretary announced that a new, more transmissible strain of coronavirus had been identified in the southeast of England.
The latest official figures showed that Test and Trace returned fewer than 10% of coronavirus results within 24 hours of testing in the week to 23 December.

Just 16.9% of in-person tests, including those taken at local, mobile and regional testing hubs, were returned within 24 hours.

Meanwhile a mere 2.1 per cent of home tests kits delivered results within 24 hours, with the overwhelming majority taking more than 3 days to be returned.

It comes as the NHS Test and Trace scheme, which has so far cost the UK taxpayer more than £22bn, has faced sharp criticism for repeatedly failing to meet targets.

The Prime Minister has shrugged off calls to sack interim chief Baroness Dido Harding despite her programme failing to deter a second wave of infections across the country.
A recent £7bn funding top up from the chancellor meant the total NHS Test and Trace budget is now more than the combined budgets for England’s police and fire services, which this year will receive £15.2bn and £3bn respectively.

The £22bn figure also dwarfs the amount of cash the government has allocated for coronavirus vaccines. The UK has so far spent just £2.7bn on vaccines for the UK and low income countries.

In a scathing report last month on the programme’s performance, the UK’s spending watchdog urged ministers to “stop throwing money” at Test and Trace.
“The government needs to urgently work out what’s going wrong at every step of the process. Throwing more money at the problem clearly isn’t the answer,” said Public Accounts Committee chair Meg Hillier.
Scathing, indeed .....

How "Incompetent" Harding holds on to these important posts without any experience, skill or interest is beyond me .....

Britain (or rather its government) has allowed itself to get into very dire straits indeed. 60000 new cases yesterday. Too little action too late in my opinion. Any tracing system wouldn't stand a chance.

Let us hope that the current action saves the NHS from being overwhelmed and people don't die unnecessarily.

Hi

A Public Inquiry is inevitable.

Dido Harding and Boris will be in the firing line, as they should be.

There is no way track and trace could work with such large numbers of infection circulating among a moving population before Christmas .

Now we are in lock down it should be easier to track people's movements and contacts .

The "success " rate of T, T & T, under Harding's "control", has always been appallingly low, despite being the recipient of truckloads of money, e.g:

Thursday 5 November 2020 11:36 am

Test and trace success rate stays near record low

https://www.cityam.com/covid19-test-...ar-record-low/

Of the 327,203 people identified as coming into close contact with someone who had tested positive between 22 October and 28 October, 59.9% were reached and asked to self-isolate.

That’s only a minor improvement from the record low proportion of 59.6% reported two weeks ago.

The private sector Test and Trace programme, overseen by Tory peer and former TalkTalk chief Dido Harding has repeatedly come under fire for it poor success rate and growing cost.
Over the weekend it was revealed the NHS test and trace app was set at an incorrect sensitivity and missed sending out alerts to self isolate to people it should have.

Hmmm.
I don't suppose that the reason T & T do so poorly is that people just don't care and will not use the service or comply?
Loads of people nowadays won't answer their phone if it's a number they don't recognize and certainly there is a huge number that don't have the app.

In light of that I have to be honest & say I'm amazed that T & T manage to contact even half of the contacts they're given.
_____________________________________________

Looking further into this and I note that the figures touted by Omah are misleading: the figure given is for those contacted by phone only.
Here's a breakdown from 17th to 23rd December:

211,914 people were transferred to the contact tracing system of which 181,910 (85.8%) were reached, 27,178 (12.8%) were not reached and 2,826 (1.3%) had not provided communication details.
" Since Test and Trace launched, 85.0% of all cases have been reached."

85% success rate is surely pretty good by anybody's standards?

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...to-23-december

Somebody seems to be trying to manufacture a story where there really isn't one that is worthy of the hype they try to give it.

You don't believe me?
Look at the official stats as above.

"Close contacts identified by NHS Test and Trace

Between 17 December and 23 December, 407,603 people were identified as recent close contacts, of which 377,459 (92.6%) were reached and told to self-isolate and 30,144 (7.4%) were not reached. Considering only the contacts where communication details were provided, 96.4% were reached and told to self-isolate in the most recent week. This has remained constant for the past two weeks.

Since Test and Trace launched 84.7% of close contacts for whom contact details were provided have been reached.
"

Do you see that?
96.4% were reached!
An increase from the average of 84.7%, so why the grumbling and groaning?
