Re: Vote Today

To admit to sleeping with dianne abbot is one thing but this guy now has no credibility with the 5,000,000 labour members who voted for brexit ...

LABOUR IGNORING DEMOCRACY IN ITS RACE FOR POWER

Labour MPs expected to be whipped to vote against a no deal Brexit tonight
Jeremy Corbyn wants no deal 'taken off table' and has called for an election
If successful he would put forward Labour deal to keep UK in customs union
But Labour's position on a second referendum remains unclear after shadow business secretary today said the party would 'not rule it out'
Labour is set to help block a no deal Brexit tonight in another crunch vote in the House of Commons.

If the best Little England can do is the likes of the cartoon that is Farage then I genuinely feel sorry for you. Tragedy is, it is the likes of him that got us into this mess in the first place and is dragging the rest of us down with you. Thank goodness we have an alternative up here. Hasten the day we have an independent Scotland at last and don’t have to put up with the likes of Farage, Boris etc.

Could you elaborate on that please Solasch? What terrible thing did the UK ask of the EU during negotiations that you assume we want our cake and eat it? I remember the meant-to-be-funny twitters regarding the "having her cake and eating it", because she had dared to negotiate staying in parts of the EU where we had either poured billions into, or were the major players in, i.e. Security and Space Programmes.

In my opinion, the EU have been playing schoolyard bullying tactics from day one of the negotiations. Just as they did with Greece, and again now with the UK.

But I would appreciate knowing how you feel we had a cheek to negotiate something that was of benefit to us, as we WERE leaving, even though it was also beneficial to the EU as well, by "having our cake and eating it".

Just what was it that so offended the EU and yourself?

Kind of same as "We have no Brexit" don't you think?

Yeah, she got a very short haircut !!! - Perhaps we can borrow a Guillotine from the French to give Farridge a similar haircut !!!

Not actually true , yes you cost us a fortune , yes we would welcome your independence

In fact, England is the only member of the UK without its own parliament now. ... 3) They have their own devolved parliaments so England has no control over affairs that only concern them. 4) England doesn't rule them as such as Welsh, Scottish and Irish people can vote and even join the parliament.

Education, health, housing and immigration

Holyrood was set up with a broad set of powers, with areas from education to health being controlled in Edinburgh instead of London.

These powers have grown, in particular since the 2014 independence referendum which led to the Smith Commission and the Scotland Act 2016 .

In turn, this has led to some confusion about what issues matter during elections - both to the Scottish Parliament and to Westminster.

Holyrood

The Scottish Parliament was established in 1999, with core powers over:

Education - everything from pre-school, primary, secondary, further, higher and lifelong education to training policy and programmes
Local government - including finance, legislative frameworks, policy and elections
Health and social work - including the NHS, funding, medicine, public and mental health and health education
Housing - including policy and building control
Justice - including policing, courts, civil and criminal law and procedure and licensing and property law
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries
Westminster

Meanwhile, the UK government retained powers over areas including:

Defence
Economic and monetary policy
The constitution
Employment
Foreign policy
Immigration
Trade and industry

Who are they kidding. It's already a dead duck.

Then we read about Barnier and his same, boring, repetitive mantra. "The UK have told us what they don't want, they will have to tell us what they DO want" otherwise there will be no extension to Article 50.

OH, IF ONLY!!
But it isn't quite 'a dead duck' Shroppy, if Barnier declines to give us an extension to article 50 if we ask for one the law is we leave the EU on 29th March with or without a deal.

Parliament can vote 'not to leave on the 29th with no deal ' by extending the leave date and that is what is happening today but leaving without a deal (all be it at a date later than 29th) can't be removed without a change in the law.
Practically the entire parliment voted for this by default when they triggered article 50 .
