A short extension to Article 50 likely ( Latest events on leaving the EU March 20th)

Hi

Headlines in one of the papers today

A 1000 Wasted Days.

Sums it up nicely.

Her Deal was been rejected twice, not surprising, it is rubbish.

It has been rejected hugely, but still she persists.

She is now asking the EU for a short extension to try again to get her deal through.

She has now handed all the power to the EU, we are in effect going begging.

Much as I think it will be a financial disaster, a No Deal is now the only way of leaving.

I am utterly disgusted by this entire mess.

It will cost us dearly for an extension too...... billions. What a total mess we are in.

What is she going to do in the next 3 months that she's been unable to do in the last 3 years?
Her Brexit deal has already been resoundingly rejected twice by MPs, the Speaker has barred her from bringing it back to the House again, yet the Chancellor is still talking of persuading enough MPs to change their minds and vote for it because they're totally bereft of alternative strategies.

Surely the country deserves better, that it's long past the time to ditch what isn't even an apology for a government any longer, and agree to a General Election.

But who on god's earth would pick up this poisoned chalice?

Re: A short extension to Article 50 likely ( Latest events on leaving the EU March 20th)

The latest news is we are to have a 3 month extention to take us to the end of June.

Barnier said in his speech yesterday we can't have a long and a short extention it has to be one or the other .

My guess is the thinking behind a 3 month extention is it allows for ..
...'no deal' on 31st March to be a possibility with another three months to prepare ,
... another vote on a deal which must have significant changes and a bill to get it through parliment.
...it avoids the EU elections.
If no deal is agreed we will finally leave without a deal on June 31st

By finally coming out in June we will be into our own growing season with plenty of fresh produce availible which will 'soften our landing'to some extent.

Lots happening today for those interested...

9am: MPs backing the “Common Market 2.0” Brexit plan hold a press conference.

10am: The People’s Vote campaign holds a press conference

12pm: Theresa May faces Jeremy Corbyn at PMQs.
This is a good live feed of events as they happen (even if it is provided by the left wing anti leave Guardian)..

Andrea Leadsum has been taking calls on LBC this morning she said that they are still trying to talk MPs round to accepting the May Offer as its such a good offer.
She was an unbelievable slime ball and the way she was praising Mays offer and T May herself made me feel ill.

She was, despite the hosts questions, not inclined to say anything apart from Mays line.

Mays deal is a bit confusing ...

We were told “no deal is better than a bad deal”, but now “no deal” means “no Brexit” and a “bad deal” is now the “good deal” but the “bad deal” means we remain.

So if we remain in the EU with a “bad deal” then we need to leave with “no deal” but as I said before, “no deal is better than the bad deal” but the “bad deal” and the “no deal” means remain as well.

So we can’t leave with “no deal” so we need to have the “bad deal” but the “bad deal” means we remain and if we don't go for the “bad deal” then that also means we would remain because “no deal” also means “no Brexit” …

Confused ?

I am.....

Re: A short extension to Article 50 likely ( Latest events on leaving the EU March 20th)

Why did the majority vote to leave the EU? Because they did not want to be told what they should do, who they should trade with and who they should be governed by. The majority voted to sever all ties with the EU.
Unfortunately the PM and her cronies did not agree with the wishes of the people and although appearing to be carrying out their wishes are doing their utmost to keep us in this union.
Democracy in this country is now dead. The countries wishes are being ignored. All these 'deals' that are being put to the people mean we will have some say in the way we run our country but we will still have to abide by rules laid down by others. Half in and half out.
Far better if we leave with no deal. Yes we may suffer hardship for a while but we will win in the end and be our own boss again.

Re: A short extension to Article 50 likely ( Latest events on leaving the EU March 20th)

Was reading this morning that Barnier could hardly contain his smirking as he announced the news of May wanting either a short or longer extension.
He couldn't wait to say that if an extension is granted, "there will have to be some concessions from the UK". We all know what that probably means.
Welcome to a soft Brexit. By the time they are finished with us, Brexit will be so soft that we may as well have not even bothered to vote.

Those clowns, ALL OF THEM, will never be forgiven by the people. They have humiliated this country.

No I am not confused
May has tried to accommodate as many people as possible by getting some sort of agreement, the problem is the one we have arrived at suits no one.

We still don't have a majority in parliment for anything including leaving by default on 29th.

The whole thing got off on the wrong foot from the start with the EU wanting a withdrawal agreement and payment before we actually discuss any trade agreements.
