1p a day = over £600 in a year!

Gosh that title sounds like an advert, ha!

Anyway, I'm sharing a savings challenge which I found online last year. Basically you begin by saving 1p on day 1, 2p on Day 3, 3p on Day 3....all the way through to the final day of the year where your last amount to save will be £3.65. When you add it all up, you will have approx £667.00.

You can begin with the higher amount too, of £3.65 and work backwards if putting away a few pounds is difficult in December.

I tried this last year and it worked but haven't started this year. You can start anytime, providing you cover 365 days to get the full amount.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links yet, but I'll try if anyone is interested to know more

Sounds like a cracking idea Pixie, and good fun too...I may start doing that because I've got loads of small change I just can't seem to get rid of with lockdown and everybody wanting paying by card. I'm off to sort out one of those large sweet jars I might have hiding somewhere...

What a good idea. I don't have any actual cash these days though. Mr Jane 10 has quite a stash though...

I just sling all my spare change into jars anyway. The 1 and 2p, 5 and 10, and 20s. Sometimes I pour into a coin machine in the supermarket. I know you lose a percentage but it clears my purse, and goes towards shopping. I often count the coins to check when it’s worthwhile.

I haven't been using coins for nearly a year now. Everything is paid for by my debit card, even for a few pence.

I've been saving £2 coins and 50p's for a few years ...... I have been using cash since the lockdown so not saving anything at the moment.

You don't half lose a %age - 9.5 or 10% in the machines in Tesco.

A Scotsman once advised me, the best way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

It is such a good way to save - probably worth starting it in September, so that you have the full amount three months before Christmas, which would be a great help! Sadly I never have any cash these days - with this pandemic everything is bought online or, on the rare occasions I venture into a shop I pay with my phone.
