Half Frozen Chicken

A daft question and I suppose I should know the answer but is it safe to cook a half defosted chicken?

I only remembered to take it out the freezer about 9 o'clock this morning and will need to cook it in time for 6 o'clock.

I know you can cook from frozen but how about half frozen?

NO, best to leave it until it has completely defrosted.

Re: Half Frozen Chicken

Joy I don't cook chicken very often , if I have to cook it I would make sure it has thawed fully first otherwise the outside could be done while the inside is still raw.

To help thaw a piece of chicken quickly you can put it in a plastic bag then place it in a basin of cold water ...

No, I wouldn't cook it, until it is fully thawed.
Would it help if you could quarter it? I believe it is 2 hours per 4lb for the cold water method that Meg suggested.

Re: Half Frozen Chicken

Thanks for that. I sort of knew that would be the answer.

Its not too far to go so will go and pop it in some cold water now.

Re: Half Frozen Chicken

I have used Meg's method of putting it in cold water and no-one suffered any unpleasant systems after the meal.

I would suggest that you remove the giblets as soon as you are able to make thawing easier.

This chicken didn't have any giblets so no problem there.
