Re: Should smoking be banned outside?

But large buses and trucks don't roar through public parks or sit outside in restaurants .
These are usually the preserve of families and others who have the right to enjoy being outside without being polluted with noxious ciggie stink.

Hi

I specifically said that there would have to be exemptions for needed vehicles.

I was referring to lifestyle choice vehicles, which pollute for no valid reason and which do stink and emit poisonous substances right next to where I am.

Re: Should smoking be banned outside?

Not happy to say so,having been a smoker myself, but the only way, in my opinion, to cure the problem would be to increase the tax, on cigarettes, to a point where few will buy them.

That tax could be used towards funding the medical treatment of smoking related problems.

Cigarettes are pretty expensive already but......!

Re: Should smoking be banned outside?

I can't believe some of the naivety posted here about traffic pollution.
Planes, cars, heavy lorries, cars ticking over, traffic lights ... motorways.
Does the pollution confine itself to some invisible zone apart from the air that humans breathe?
Recent studies undisputedly show, as they once did with smoking and passive smoking, that air pollution from traffic and industry is lethal.
Anyone remember when Beijing hosted the Olympics?
When all the factories had to close down for a fortnight to give the smog time to clear?

I've heard some weird justifications of one global pollutant but it's getting laughable on here.
I understand that a great deal of pollution could be called a 'necessary evil' ... but really, to minimise it try to justify it's dangers simply to have a go at smokers is pretty pathetic and weak.

Re: Should smoking be banned outside?

I would like everybody to stop smoking, but it should be their choice

If passive smoke is such a danger then the government should have put a total ban on cigarettes, so why didn't they? It is probably because they didn't want to loose the tax income from the sale of cigarettes!

I appreciate that smoking has considerably reduced, by making them smoke outside, but do we really need to make smokers feel like Lepers ?
