Jobs

I saw this job advertised online. It isn’t untypical of what some employers expect, and what they are prepared to give in return.

Butlers Automotive Ltd (Part of the Autosupplies Group) are seeking to recruit a part time delivery driver to join our busy team, delivering parts to garages in and around the Barnsley area. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 12.30 pm - 5.00 pm and working Saturdays 8.00 am to 1.00 pm on a rota basis. The ideal candidate will be a hardworking and conscientious individual and flexibility with their working arrangements is a must as they will be required to cover for holiday periods and sickness periods. A full clean driving licence is essential for this role. Minimum wage applies.

Surely, for the minimum wage, one would only be willing to do the minimum amount of work, with a minimum amount of conscientiousness and flexibility. Or is there something wrong with my reasoning?

Re: Jobs

The reasoning is fine, but its the market that's the problem as usual.

Re: Jobs

Thank goodness Australia has always had a proper wage system with awards for just about any job and penalties for employers that don't pay the proper wage.

Governments have tinkered with the Industrial Relations system but I think most people support it. The last major attempt at change resulted in the government out on its ear and the PM lost his seat.

For the small number of employees not covered by awards as of 1st July, 2020 the minimum wage is $19.84 (£9.40) per hour, or $753.80 per 38-hour week. Casual employees get at least a 25 per cent loading.

Re: Jobs

Watched it for years, the average will prevail, the escaping chancers make good telly, but it will take a few years for the Media to record the fall from grace.

Re: Jobs

That’s the problem here, not many employers will pay a decent wage, they all want maximum profit for their shareholders, once the bean counters took over running businesses it all went downhill
