I understand what you say I guess I haven't seen it that way as I was so happy and proud to become a Mrs but wasn't unhappy being a Miss either. You don't see Lord and Lady on forms so I guess that's not really what we are talking about here, it's more basic assigning of titles.

I had an aunt that was very haughty, Hyacinth Bucket, had nothing on her, she asked me to put "Lady" on her envelopes I sent so her postman would tell the neighbours and they'd treat her nicely!

I prefer being addressed as 'Mrs' to having complete strangers using my given name.

Yes me too, it seems these days people just go straight to first name terms which I don't particularly like. Especially when they expect to be addressed as Mr or Mrs or Doctor !

In Australia we call everyone by their first name. I prefer it that way and so do most people I know.
However you guys in the UK can call me Mr Ploppy.

Whenever I have a hospital or GP appointment my name is always called out over the radio system, or by a nurse, as first name and surname.
Never Mrs.

Yes that is what I dislike I prefer being a Mrs they don't know me well enough to call me by my first name.

Julie, our surgery is the same but I think it is that way to save confusion if there are more than one patient with the same surname.
