GP's charging?

I don't know if there is any truth in this or whether it's just newspaper hype, but this is what I have just read:

"GP's want to charge patients for the types of routine surgery that are now being rationed by the NHS.
Some GP's want to charge £246 for removing a mole, and £156 to lop off a wart in order to rack up their six figure salaries.
The law says the NHS is free at the point of use, which is why this little money-making scam should be dispensed with ASAP."

Is this just the start of many new charges, or is this not true at all?

Re: GP's charging?

Heard it on the radio, and seen it in the press, but as yet im not sure its a fact. Along with possible charges for GP appointments, and means testing for some medication for long term illness, its certainly worrying.

The NHS is not free we all pay towards it, if it genuinely needs more money that should be found. But not to line the pockets of a few.

£150 for a Vasectomy, that would be "A Snip".

Re: GP's charging?

I do think we will be charged to make an appointment with our gp in the very near future. I can see it coming .

Could be another of Cameraons leaks to judge public reaction to the idea.

Re: GP's charging?

I think they are going about this wrong if it's true, they need to stop people taking up GP time with nonsense and charging if you found to not have needed an appointment would sort that out, also why don't they triage patients ? they could use a nurse to weed out people who should be elsewhere, our GP (new broom sweeping through) is seeing so many people who either need walk in centre, A and E or could see the pharmacist. But because we don't know where to go they all go to the GP.

Yes some good ideas there - I think they should ask when appointment is needed 'what is it needed for' ......

And here is another how about Skype or phone consultations ? many of us could be seen so much more cheaply by phone.
