Following on from what Shropshiregirl said, I would simply point out that it was the previous Labour Government, who, in 2005, relaxed the rules.

Grenfell was a tragedy, it is not to be used for political gain, I find that disgusting.

It is an example of a systematic failure which has been going on for decades.

A failure which needs to be rectified as soon as possible and with full cross party support.

It is not just a matter of the cladding, it is a matter of fire safety and housing management in total.

We will never know exactly how many died or their identities.

That is a failure of Housing Management.

There should have been no illegals at all in Social Housing, we have had to give an amnesty to try to determine numbers.

Flats are designed with maximum occupancy numbers for fire safety and with legal requirements for internal layouts and fire doors to prevent the spread of fire.

The massive series of fire inspections now being carried out nationwide is exposing a whole series of problems.

In order to prevent another tragedy, their needs to be massive changes and a much stricter enforcement of safety laws.
