Re: Hms hood

I was fascinated to read this. I have on my mantelpiece a small brass tray (could be the bottom of a shell case?) engraved HMS Hood 1919-1941. My late husband's step-father was in the Navy and this was one of his souvenirs, though how and why he came by it I know not.

Re: Hms hood

Yes a great loss to Britain , our mighty battleship hit by a lucky shot from the Bismark in its vulnerable section of deck plating over the ammunition storage, with the fifth shot fired by the Bismark.
This month in 1943 my fathers ship was totally destroyed , being the only ship ever sunk by the new radio controlled flying bomb devised by the Germans, That ended his life. Sad that his memorial is now just there to be vandalised by todays brain dead moroons.

Re: Hms hood

I was surprised that anything of the Hood was salvaged as I assumed it would be designated as a war grave?

I agree, it does not sit easy with me most macabre in my opinion.
