He’s back again today and is sat on the same staddle stone that last pheasant did .They like to sit on it and crow !

He is very handsome! Muddy. I wonder why male birds are always better looking than the females?

I saw a pheasant in my garden a few weeks ago. It was dusk and my first thought was, l hope a fox doesn’t get you.

To attract the females.

Funny in the animal world it is usually the opposite to the human world, isn't it.

Look at the big handsome male Lions and the plainer females.
Drakes are more colourful than the female ducks.
Peacocks and their elaborate plumage against the quite dowdy Peahens etc.

In our species, it is mostly the females who try to look the most colourful with their clothes, and make up and painted fingers and toes.
