Re: Charles Laughton

I Claudius, was another good one of his. My dad said he was on the original Les Miserables. I must look out for that.

Never saw that one - only remember the remake with Derek Jacobi. I bet he was good though - well, he would be - he was a Yorkshire Man! He was in the 1935 version of LM with Frederick March (I think) but have not seen that one either. He even turned up in an episode of 'Wagon Train' once!

Cor, this is a blast from the blast.

They don't make actors like him anymore ... Quasimodo and the Bounty.

I don't think I Claudius was ever finished or released, I vaguely recall him saying it was cursed.

You are right, Bruce.

From IMDb - An attempt was made, in the 1930s, to turn the novels "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God" into an epic movie. It was unfinished, abandoned when one of the stars was in a car accident, and never released. A different production of "I, Claudius" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074006 was very successful, released in 1976.

None of the footage was lost, and was gathered into a documentary in the 1960s, "The Epic that Never Was" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199498/, It can be found on BBC's four DVD set of the 1976 mini-series, and footage from the unfinished 1937 movie can be seen.
