A night at The Opera

Have you ever been to the Opera? What did you go to see? I have seen Carmen and Last Boheme.

Hi

Yes, love it.

Never been to London for it though, far too expensive.

I do Birmingham and Manchester and always dress for it.

I have never been able to afford,or had the opportunity to go to the Opera.

There are many Operas I would have liked to have seen live

Wow Deb, lucky you! I visited there but the theatre was empty!!

Absolutely love it...murder and mayhem, love and romance, revenge and deceit, harmony and war...sometimes you can have the whole lot in one opera like my favourite, Tosca.

Never been to the opera but will go to see Madam Butterfly when it comes near me, hopefully soon.
Love the ballet, though and usually go to one in January with my sisters, lovely..

Re: A night at The Opera

I don't think we have any Operas locally, I've been to the ballet and musicals, several times in Bristol, but no operas, would love to go though.
I think it would be beyond my price range sadly.

Tess, in case you're interested, the Welsh National Opera will be at the Bristol Hippodrome at dates from October'16 to April'17....

Re: A night at The Opera

I go to the opera about twice a year.

I think that going to a movie or play or show is merely
"going out"

A night at the opera is an "occasion."

AS for the cost?
It is horrendously expensive to employ professional tenors, bass, contralto, full orchestra, choir/s and the rest.

If you go to the box office in person & chat up the desk staff, they very often have 20 or more special tickets for people who would like to go but can't afford it , try it!

MY favourite is the performances of CAV & PAG. aka Cavalleria rusticana & Pagliacci Mascagni & Leoncavallo .
Two short operas containing some of the most exquisitely beautiful music ever written.
For "Spectacle" AIDA is to die for.My fav. composers are Joe Green (Verdi) and the prolific PUCCINI ( Boheme, Tosca, Madam Butterfly et al
