Mysterious knocking noise!

My car just went through it's MOT but now it's developed a banging noise when I get up to 60mph. It just bangs a couple of times, seems to be at the back somewhere.

I thought I'd forgotten to let that bearded man out of the boot!

I've tried wriggling the exhaust pipe but it doesn't seem to be loose, it was replaced last autumn.

Any ideas?

Is the spare tyre in the boot and is it secure?

Can you describe the noise better.
Is it a banging or a dull knock / metallic knock etc. Is it when driving normally, or only over bumps etc.

It's a knocking like someone is inside the boot, well under the backseat area. It's not on bumpy roads, just when accelerating to get up to 60 ish after driving a while.

Could it be the heat lately making the exhaust super hot?

First time I thought I'd picked up a stick under the car or something, can't see anything.

My first reaction would be the exhaust,if as you say its started after the mot its likely that they have somehow loosened/bent summit with their prodding and poking around with their bars.

Yes, I think I might send son-in-law under to have a look. I don't want anything falling off!

Yes I will Barry.
Thanks everyone, I know nothing about cars, I don't even know where the oil goes.
It's little old automatic Yaris, just point and go!

Re: Mysterious knocking noise!

The recent knocking noise at the back and as if in the boot turned out to be my shock absorbers on the left side . I even checked the spare tyre was tight and secure , it would only knock on occasions , cost me £120 .
