Good grief, Gumbud, what a shocking thing to happen. I had never heard of a Goanna before. Definitely don't want to meet one!

New to me too Tabby.... I might give up gardening if I lived there.

They are monitor lizards Tabs .
They are indigenous to Australia unlike peacocks and most dozy Aussies .
I wonder what happened to the poor thing .

OMG, what's next? Every morning I'm fighting off the crocs and in the afternoon the sharks.
I must get some goanna repellent in case they come up my street.
Snakes and spiders I can handle but goannas are a different kettle of fish.
Go Anna. I mean, go away .

Ah - have heard of Monitor Lizards, but always thought they were African. Still not sure I would want to meet one! Just read the article again - didn't say what happened to this one. I hope they let it go - unharmed - somewhere it could find food.

Edit: Just noticed the 'story continues' button - the lizard did not survive.

They are all over south east Asia Tabs .
Some are huge -think Komodo Dragon .
A very dangerous animal with a poisonous bite .

Re: The perils of garden life in OZ

Sad they killed it, but like rats here in gardens, not good & far more dangerous. The people were defending their livestock, like people do here if foxes are after their chickens.
Though I think I'd hate having the spiders more because they are smaller & not easily seen, or any other poisonous insect there.
