I consider myself fortunate that I have (or rather had) an excellent memory and basically I remember everything I read. Over time some of the details might go but I remember the gist of it.
For example I am the secretary of a branch of a Seniors organisation which has a 70 page constitution which I have read. I know most of the rules even though I couldn't quote the clauses word for word I do know what they say. Likewise the Australian Constitution, which I read decades ago, I still remember basically what it says, for example I know Clause 116 is about religious freedom and 51 is the section that defined the Commonwealth's powers and which, prior to 1967, excluded Aboriginals from their legislation (leaving it to the states).
I think a good memory is a human asset that I am glad I have and which has served me well over the years.
However probably not so necessary in the age of Google.
