Don't have that problem, my smoke detectors are wired into the mains.

Yes Judd they do, but they are being constantly 'trickle' charged whilst the mains are 'on', and no, I can't change those batteries, its all part of an integrated alarm system which provides alarm to all four flats. It is maintained and serviced every year.
