Debase

Have you ever experienced Debasement?

That don't mean a room below below street level!

Re: Debase

Is this a question for which you want a serious answer Spitfire?..If so...

Self-abasement is humiliating oneself when one feels lower or less deserving of respect. ... In psychology, self-abasement is associated with shame (rather than guilt) and involves the reduction of the subject's self-esteem. The notion of self-abasement can be said to be based in Freudian psychoanalysis. (Wiki; DSM 5)

And no, thankfully, I haven't. But I met (treated) countless people in my professional years who did. I won't ask why you ask.

Isn’t that what some abusive men do to women in a relationship? .....and maybe, abusive women do the same to men too?

Keezoy, If it’s an individual thing.. isn’t this due to the person lacking confidence because no one has ever encouraged or boosted them from a young age, or told them how great they are?

Sure. Absolutely it can be Art. But any mental health practitioner worth their registration will see every person they ever meet as individual and unique. Labels are only good as a generality and nothing more - ever. lack of confidence is a huge thing to talk about. I could do that for ever here. But I won't. JUst that there can be hundreds of reasons for it. I don't know where to start - and I won't. Because if I did, you would wish I hadn't. One form of psychological abuse that destroys people's confidence and makes them dependent on the abuser is gaslighting. I offered something on this before but the only interest people seemed to have was making a joke of it. So I didn't bother further.

I apologise if I was one of the comedians Keezoy.... I would never knowingly disrespect anyone on the forum, or anywhere else for that matter.....However;
I don't think an open public forum would be an appropriate place to discuss Gaslighting Keezoy, especially if you were the perpetrator or victim....It would be like admitting your failings as an adult or being the victim of sexual abuse as a child to the whole world....
The only way I can see of discussing such a delicate and embarrassing subject would be as either the third party or humorously.....I usually choose the latter...
