Re: On the contrary

ALL women be you independent or dependent are valuable contributors to society and all women who are not wealthy worry about retirement.

Women have good reason to worry since women confront unique challenges as they strive to save for retirement and ensure that their retirement savings lasts a lifetime.

Some of these challenges include longer life expectancies than their male counterparts. Also, on average, women experience lower lifetime earnings than men due to lower salaries.

This is further complicated by the responsibilities of motherhood which could mean disrupted work histories and more time spent in part-time jobs yet they will still have to stretch their smaller accumulated retirement savings over longer lifetimes.

We can help alleviate the worry that women feel about retirement by:

Encourage the women in your life to start planning and saving earlier since women spend fewer years in the workforce than men.

Encourage the women in your life to take an active part in their financial plan for retirement since they may have different concerns to their spouse at retirement which can be addressed in their retirement plan.

Encourage the women in your life to invest in their health to limit medical costs at retirement.

Re: On the contrary

Problem is , many save all of their lives, then die before they even reach retirement.

I have seen this often happen in my days as a carer, some really sad stories I’ve heard.

Takeaway a good idea, if she doesn't want to cook once a week.
Look on the bright side, at least you won't have to stop smoking, or, if not already, switch to rollies they are cheaper.
Or switch to vaping like we did. In 6 months we'd saved enough to replace the central heating boiler in our apartment. In 12, we'd saved enough to change the boiler in our rental too.

Thanks for that Minx.

In the meantime, how can I persuade my wife that we really don't need to buy a couple of new plates since we really do have enough?

I’m not seeing the problem in your scenario Pauline since an attractive inheritance for loved ones is the end result.

Dex, it is time to print out the budget and have a honest conversation around the finances and jointly decide what you both can sacrifice and what’s not negotiable.

Your lovely wife must have an idea of your financial plan which results in less stress for you since you both will share the burden of the budget. It’s 50/50 in a relationship

You won’t get it right the first time. Think of it as a marathon and not a race

Crikey.

I currently mostly smoke iqos heets. These don't smell of anything, so i can use them in the living room, safe in the knowledge that the room never smells of smoke.

I sometimes have a pack of ordinary ciggies when we have guests round and we socialise outdoors, or when I'm in our log cabin (fully wired with cat5 internet access and a computer).

If I have to go into a nursing home, my children’s inheritance would be zilch....at the amount they charge each month.

May I also say...this woman has never worried about retirement or how much money she has in the bank.

It can't be too attractive in the UK, Minx, otherwise it will be taxed at 40% (inheritance tax) on anything over £325k (there are exemptions though). Our bloody Governments get you in life and in death.
