Silly, ridiculous, stupid injuries.

I consider myself to be reasonably strong, I mean I can still lift two bags of sand or carry heavy weights but the other day I went to get something from a drawer, turned slightly wrong and pulled something in my hip. I have been hobbling around ever since. it is so bloody annoying that these little things can catch us out.

It's like when you wake up in the morning and have a stretch but pull a muscle in your neck which then hurts for three days.

Do others get things like this or is it just me? I'm always getting silly little injuries even though I do get quite a lot of exercise these days.

Re: Silly, ridiculous, stupid injuries.

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain LD. I had a similarly mysterious and mystifying injury just before Christmas. I apparently injured the ligament under my ribs through coughing. I thought it was something much more serious because a pain there can be a ruptured spleen. Fortunately it healed. I hope you recover soon too.

My silliest injury was at a party when I was 18. A whole load of us had been away camping for a weekend and for some reason after the trip we were staying at a friend's gran's house (she was with the parents). So we had the whole house to ourselves and decided to have a party. A friend from Wiltshire decided to make " punch" (which she pronounced "paaarrrrnch"). Now I have no idea what she put in but this stuff was lethal! Anyway we all ended up sitting on the kitchen floor for some reason having a laugh and one of the guys opened the freezer and took out a frozen chicken. He said "look it's a chicken" which seemed hilarious at the time. That is until it slipped out of his hands flew in the air and hit me right in my left temple! Boy did it hurt for a few days. I reckon you can kill someone with a frozen chicken if you are not careful!

Yes, I too often do things like that. Last time it was in the loo, I reached out for the loo paper & something went in my back, it was painful for three days, but then gone & OK again. I've done it lifting boxes & even just turning wrong. I think once you weaken whatever it is, muscle maybe, it happens more often & it's almost always in the same place. It's a bummer getting older.

Gday. Yep I did it to my back recently. I was using the line trimmer doing the sweeping motion. Next day my back was out and I couldn't lie down and sometimes hardly walk for three weeks. Had to have physio. I had to sleep sitting up. It's fine now but it was a bugger at the time. Over such a benign physical activity.

Poor Dongle.

When my back aches, I stick a hot water bottle down the back of my trousers when I'm sitting down, it soothes it a lot.

Got any Deep Heat or similar? If it doesn't go away in a few days, I'd pay a visit to an osteopath or chiropractor if I were you. Google McTimonay practitioners in your area, see if there is someone.

Failing that, me and Tabby can come and walk up and down on you if you feel that might help?

I follow the same practice Mups ,advised Muddy to do the same a while back .
Doing the most simple thing seems to result in these agonising strains ?

Re: Silly, ridiculous, stupid injuries.

The silliest injury I have had was many years ago while winding up an 8 day clock (picture elsewhere)

It was just before Christmas, my first wife (I told you it was long ago) was sitting in an arm chair so I used the arm of her chair to get up onto the sideboard to reach the clock which was obviously high up.

When I finished the winding I stepped backward down on the arm of the chair to get down, as I did so I dislodged a small Christmas tree standing on the sideboard.

My wife promptly leapt up to steady the Christmas tree just as my full weight landed on the arm of her armchair. No longer steadied by my wife sitting in the chair the armchair started to tip sideways.

My foot, now on the arm of the chair, followed it but the rest of me (ie my centre of gravity) was now no longer over my foot so I gracefully fell backwards only to land on the edge of a stool halfway across the room where I broke three ribs.

It was a very painful Christmas for me.

Talking of silly injuries.

When I was a child in the 40/50s I remember there was a record played on BBC radio relating this event as a letter, not in song and not Irish but I have been unable to find it.
