I doubt it - we need Gibraltar more than Spain does. It's our EU listening post so we know what your up to.

Oh, and the small matter of controlling what goes in and out of the Med.

Do you think we should let Gibraltar have its own MP in Westminster so it becomes a region of the UK, just like, say, Wales... ?

I do and so do the Gibraltarians. After all, they are more British than we are.

Since gibraltar is a part of spain, the british living there are colonialists. The spanish are the native people.

You should go there on a Sunday and watch the parades.

Perhaps you should have a claim on a bit of Spain as well then - how about Melilla or Ceuta ? After all, the Netherlands put more contributions into the EU than they do but Spain has miles more votes than you do. Do you ever get tired of your Spanish friends stopping you getting anything out of EU membership ?

Don't you think thats a bit unfair ?

No. We settled this matter in 1713. You took posession of gibraltar then. Look what the united nations say on this.

[QUOTE]

The United Nations on decolonization has a list of Non-Self-Governing territories. On this list 17 territories or colonies that are still to be liberated. For 10 of these territories the UK is the administrative power. For several of these territories that power is contested, notably the malvinas and gibraltar.
In international terms gibraltar is a colony of the UK. A relic from the empire days. After 200 years, isn't it time to end the colonial days and pull back the occupying power?

But the Gibraltarians had a referendum in the 1960s on whether they wanted to be Spanish or British..... they voted 99% in favour of being British.

Like I said, the real solution for Gibraltar is to give the Gibraltarians what they want and let them be represented in Westminster.

Why isn't Spain handing back Ceuta and Melilla ?
