Wasn't that only us ladies JBR?

I always used to think to meself that was unfair why you men could have a free pee, but we had to pay for the priviledge.

It's true, but we men couldn't do it in private; we had to stand and compare sizes.

Of course, men had (and have) another advantage: we can have a quick pee behind a tree, or anywhere out of view for that matter, for free.
A free pee behind a tree where no-one can see.

I won't mention half a crown (2 shillings and sixpence). Oh go on then, it's 12 and a half pence.

The previous ten bob note had been replaced with the 50p piece two years earlier.
And we still had Jacks, Cockles, Ponies, Bullseyes, Monkeys and Bags of sand.

But what can you buy with that 1p?
I read a piece somewhere that said that reason for this sort of pricing was that the cashier had to open the till to give you change which meant the sale was recorded and he couldn't slip the £1 coin into his own pocket.

Re: Happy Birthday to the 'New Pence'.

As soon as they came out with a ½p they you know that they had stuffed up decimalisation.

Why on earth they didn't make the old 10/- a New Pound is beyond belief. It just created instant inflation.

One thing I was surprised about was that you still have copper coins, our smallest coin is now 5c (the old sixpence) because copper coins cost more to produce than their face value.

if something is 99c here you don't get change from the $1 BUT if you use your credit/debit card then it costs 99c. Anyway who uses cash these days?
