MP's reject animals feel pain.

MPs have voted to reject the inclusion of animal sentience – the admission that animals feel emotion and pain – into the EU Withdrawal Bill.

The majority of animal welfare legislation comes from the EU. The UK Government is tasked with adopting EU laws directly after March 2019 but has dismissed animal sentience.

Found this on the British Vets Assoc...
Responding to the vote, BVA senior vice-president Gudrun Ravetz said: “It is extremely concerning a marginal majority of MPs have voted down this seminal clause.

“Enshrining animal sentience in UK law would have acknowledged that we consider animals as being capable of feelings such as pain and contentment and, so, deserving of consideration and respect. It is a founding principle of animal welfare science and the way we should treat all animals.
I think all pet owners would agree that that their pets have feelings.

Re: MP's reject animals feel pain.

I had a look to see which MPs had voted against including the animal sentience clause - just to make sure I never voted for any of them in future.
Apart from one Independent MP, all those MPs who voted against this Clause 30 were Tory or DUP.
Not one Tory voted for it.
Sickening that they put party politics above matters of conscience.

The vote was very marginal so I hope some animal rights rigorous campaigning will force them to re-think.

I've signed a petition calling to repeal this decision - will you?

I suspect that many of those MPs, or their mates, enjoy fox hunting.

Having said that, I believe we should be free to accept only those EU laws with which we agree.
