Yes did you see the fly by today , it was very touching . He blames himself for their death as he was on the green when they were trying to crash land. What a super guy , bless his heart .

Re: Tear Jerking

He was only a child playing in the park when this bomber was returning from a mission over Germany, badly shot up the pilot attempted to land in the park, at the last minute he realised that there were children playing, so he tried to land further on but sadly crashed killing all the crew, he never forgot that sacrifice, and made a memorial to the fallen crew, tending it for years, by chance a few months ago a journalist happened to be walking his dog and saw this man tending the memorial, and got chatting, he said how he would love a flypast to honour this brave aircrew, well it was reported on our local news and the us airforce became involved, and today he was able to watch his flypast. Very moving,

Re: Tear Jerking

I saw him on the news the other day. He was really crying, saying he had killed the crew on the plane.
He said, the men on the plane were aged between 21 and 28 and one man’s wife was expecting a baby.

A fantastic tribute to them for their sacrifice and him for years of dedication. He believed the good weather was a sign of the crews appreciation, they are family to him.

I was amazed at how many people turned out to honour the American airmen. Very moving and after the event, he crept off back to the memorial to tell his 'family' all about it.

Re: Tear Jerking

Typical British empathy and kindness for those brave young airmen, and a great tribute to Tom as well, from or the people of Sheffield, all showing their gratitude.
