Our plates are issued by and belong to the state government, they are pressed out of steel or aluminum. If the plates get damaged you take them in and they give you another set off the pile and amend the rego papers with the new number.

Re: Security measures

To provide extra security for the entire car, it is quite easy to have a hidden "kill switch" installed. This, of course would do nothing to protect your fancy wheels or your number plate, but it is quite effective to keep your entire car from being stolen, even if someone had a key to your car, or the thief popped the lock.

Re: Security measures

Plates can be made up with false v5 documents, the criminals don’t care about the police, they will use the falsified documents to sell a car to some unsuspecting punter , it’s usually high end cars that are stolen to order and shipped abroad or broken for parts, if the crims want your car, they will get it

Re: Security measures

I keep hearing reports of number plates being unscrewed and nicked at a new shopping centre car park not far from me.
This car park is always very busy, it's a nightmare to park usually, and it is out in the open not a multi storey, yet plates are being taken in broad daylight while people are in the shops!

Re: Security measures

High value cars go into storage containers and shipped out to the Far East.

Some time ago I watched a program about it some years ago, in one far east car pound the tracker signals were thick and fast with the nmber of stolen cars.

Africa is also a favoured destination, especially Nigeria.

Our car came with locking wheel nuts. The number plates are attached with normal screws.

Re: Security measures

I wonder if anyone would want to nick this plate?
