Did you see the recent news about the UK's rapid recent growth in the TV & movie sector?
Mind you, you would have to stumble accross it because it's not exactly widely-publicised here.

"Covid pandemic fuelling growth of film and TV studios in UK"

Much of the investment is from the USA's Netflix and Amazon plus USA-based production companies, apparently.

What are you hoping for with VAT? Will any government give up tax revenue especially indirect tax revenue.

I suspect that the best you can hope for is a single rate that brings in the same amount of revenue. I vaguely remember there were several different rates when I lived there (Australia's GST is 10% but there are things, such as food and healthcare, which are exempt)

There won't be any EU VAT for a start. The domestic EU VAT is about 5% of our 20% rate.

Hi

No, we can set our own, but still have to pay for things.

We are hugely in debt.

That is true but so are most countries.
Prior to this we didn't even feature in the top 10.
In fact we just scraped into the top 30, but look at all the EU members and their debt.

We can set the VAT rate to 15% and be no worse off because it won't be going to your mates in Brussels.

Paying higher tax isn't the answer to our debt - its a really stupid idea.

Do you seriously think that is likely to happen? Really?

That money will end up in the same place as the 350million pounds a week that was implied would go to the NHS. The pandemic showed how well that was funded.

350 million was about right it was proved in the courts.

Try and be original. That bollocks was bad enough first time around never mind when its been reheated 4 years later.

Why do I need to be original? There is plenty of evidence to show that your wishful thinking will never happen. It is in the nature of governments to hang on to indirect tax income, they will not give back any by reducing VAT, you live in fantasy land if you think they will.
