I see there are other new routes opened recently too, including Liverpool to Portugal and Spain & Teeside to Spain.

Calais could well see a reduction regardless, and as you say if they want to further bite the hand that feeds .........
Thats exactly what needs to happen Zaph! How stupid to concentrate
all your traffic through one bottlenecked port??
Makes you overdependant on that port !
Maybe that was the diabolical plot??
NO JOKE!!
Fancy having to roll on and off TWICE to get to northern lreland,
AND then TWICE more to get back ???

I wouldn't believe anything thats published on fullfact.

I'm right .. the CET applies to goods leaving the "free port" in accordance with the single market and customs union rules.

Thats why they are "free ports in name only". Nothing more.

Ah well it's a much shorter route, so cheaper & quicker.
Remember though that most of EU member Ireland's imports come through us the same way.

No, its the same distance Zaph?
Just shorter on the ship! Bt causes uch more pollution and
disruption to UK roads ??
Once driven onto the correct ship the stuff can be delivered over
shorter road distances instead of trundling up the length of uk in
smelly deisel trucks? The same applies to lreland ? It would also
probably solve the so called NI problem??
But l dont think the trucking companies would welcome it, but so
what??
We will probably have to do this anyway if EU spits its dummy out !!

Donkeyman! 👍😁👍
