That seems like some really good experiences.

We visited Egypt on an impulse rather than planning it. We were in Cyprus for a holiday and decided to take a cruise ship from there to see the pyramids. We thoroughly enjoy the cruise and Cairo and the pyramids but the museum was the hi-light for me.

That sounds brilliant and I hope you get your wish to visit again and see the Opera Aida.

Re: Your favourite towns/cities?

I hate the Big Towns and Citys, I'm an Islander and love the peace and quiet when I go back home to Mull. I like Thurso as it's nice and wee and it's real friendly but I prefer Villages.
One old Town I do quite like is St Andrews I have a friend who lives there so I do visit from time to time. But the big Citys I avoid like the plaque.

Re: Your favourite towns/cities?

Assuming towns and cities to visit overseas my favourite was Dubai, UAE but seeing it on TV lately it's changed so much from what I remember back in 1974 right through to the last time that I was there in 1984.
Because of my circumstances at the time I regarded Dubai as home believe it or not but then I wasn't born in the UK!

A close second is Rotterdam because I nearly went to live there permanently after spending over six months living and working in Holland. Great people and lovely areas in Greater Rotterdam, despite its industrial heart.

For different reasons I love Malta - I was born there (Royal navy family) so I'm biased and I loved Valletta and M'Tarfa - the place where I was born and then there's Bastia and Calvi in Corsica and Elba, off the Tuscan coast plus Menton, Cannes and Nice on the French Riviera because I visited them all in the early 90s - each has its charms, especially Menton, which was a Victorian favourite.
Finally, Spain and Dénia and Calpe are my favourite large towns followed by Valencia and Barcelona as favourite cities then small towns like Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Blanes on the Costa Brava, Tossa is a gem - really!! stevmk2

Re: Your favourite towns/cities?

Whenever we have travelled long distance we have always made a point of stopping off for up to a week in town or city of whichever country we were in, just for a good look round really. I have a few favourite places but I think my real favourite is Singapore, I just love it there.

Re: Your favourite towns/cities?

In my younger days I visited New York and loved it but now avoid all cities, can't stand crowds, noise, litter. Last year I went I to London to pick up a passport, couldn't get home quick enough!
