I know what you mean Vicki-couple of years ago a neighbour wrote my Golf off-when they came to pick it up I watched them drive all the way down the street with tears rolling down my face........I really really loved that car..........that makes 2 planks!

Re: Your first car

The first car I ever owned was a Morris 1100. It was dark green and cost nearly£400 That was 1974 or 75. Anyway it seemed a lot of cash at the time
It went with plenty TLC from boyfriend, who later became husband. He and his friend even gave it a new engine at one point. I remember that vividly. He looked in on me about midnight to say they'd finished and were just going to make sure it went. I fell asleep tp be woken at 2am by him returning to say it didn't . They got it moving in the end though. it only died after the crop of toadstools growing on the carpet was investigated and we discovered how rusty the floor and sills were
It was an improvement on OH's Morris Minor. When he jacked it up the wheels stayed on the ground.

Re: Your first car

My first car was an old Mini, was hand painted.. and had natural air conditioning

I had a whole in the floor under the pedals, used to get my feet soaked when it rained..

But I loved it

Re: Your first car

1976 Renault 5TL - bronze. I bought it (with some help) for my 18th birthday in 1983. It was a pile of rust but it saw me through art school and got traded in for a mk1 Golf when I got my first job. I too cried when I left it standing on the forecourt of a Nth Circular Road garage!

The very first car I remember is my Dad's spruce green Zodiac Zephyr (Ford I think). Great big steering wheel and fins A friend of his later bought it off him and totalled it (and himself) in it

Re: Your first car

My first car was a 1947 Hillman Minx (same age as me) - solid front axle, side valve engine, cable brakes, vacuum powered windscreen wipers, flip up semophore indicators, no water pump.

Cost me £10, had a lot of fun in it, heap of shit to be honest.

Hi

My first car was a Singer Gazelle.

Lovely leather and real wood and plenty of room in the back seat.

It cost £35 and lasted a year.
