A great looking car, I would love one of those now.

BTW, if anyone still owns a Mk1 Escort, sell it. They are worth a fortune even if completely dilapidated.

Re: Your first car

My first car was Fiat 128. A great little car and quick for a 1300.

Second car was a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. (went like **** off a shovel)

Do you think, like me, that modern cars, despite being technically much better, are just not as memorable as our first cars? It would have filled me with joy to wash and polish my Triumph and perhaps buy some accessories for it. My current car only gets washed when it rains.

In a feverish bout of decluttering I threw out a speedo cable for my old Mk1 Escort only about a month or so ago. Bloody awful car with the distributor stuck under the inlet manifold (the result of changing to a cross flow head without redesigning the block) and like most British cars absurdly underpowered.

My first car was a MK1 Escort, my main recollection was that the gear change was superb, that was in 1979, it was 8 years old then.

Re: Your first car

1955 split windscreen Moggie - cost £100 in 1972/3
Navy paintwork was terrible so my husband got it resprayed in a light blue colour for me as a pressie.

It was great till a dust cart demolished it shooting over the stop sign in the snow at a crossroad with me in it.

Got some piccies somewhere of a before and after the dust cart, might try and find them
