Re: Hobbies

What talent, it's great to see we do do things besides tinternet life. I've spent years going to night school for different subjects I've settled on my painting as now I'm old and not too strong in my bones it's a gentle pastime.

I will admit I miss dancing and flirting around doing photography here there and everywhere......very very much.

Re: Hobbies

That's a smashing job on the box Longfellow, well done.
I'm useless with wood, any material I can't melt down if I make a bags of it and start again I'm lost, give me metal, be it precious or brass any day.
I follow the horse racing if you could call that a hobby.

Re: Hobbies

My hobbies are:-

Backpacking - hiking & camping

Making knives. I buy the blades then fit and carve my own handles

Leatherwork. This is mainly to make the knife sheaths

Making model aeroplanes, the plastic kits, of which Airfix are the best known.

Knifemaking is not a well known hobby, so if you are curious go to this website, especially the Handmade & Custom, Scandinavian, and Members Projects forums

www.britishblades.com

I used to be quite keen on photography, but when digital came along I couldn't take to it. I have since got rid of all my 35mm stuff, and the accessories, and hardly take ant photos now

Re: Hobbies

Longfellow, that's very impressive! Looks really good.

I did woodwork many years ago at evening class, and loved it. Did two years.

Hobbies now are mainly reading, a bit of creative writing when I can put my heart into it. Genealogy, occasionally puzzle books.

Surfing the internet can take up many hours of my time.

Oh, and mustn't forget my small allotment plot, and the committee work.

I think looking at the schooling today and looking back I was one of the lucky ones. We had basket weaving/iron work/brickwork/woodwork/ various other crafts were we learnt how to make soft toys and that taught us how to sew. I learnt how to build a house in brickwork with miniature bricks and lintels doors and window frame, roofing, took us weeks between us but well worth it. All the lads left school with some idea of what we may become apprentices at. Pity I ended up in the steelworks. For 2 yrs and then 3yrs in upholstery so I never got to do an apprenticeship but I got to be a jack of all trades. Much more than the kids of today have.

Re: Hobbies

I took up photography again, something I have been interested in most of my life. Yes initially getting a decent camera and lens is expensive but like most things you get what you pay for.
There are so many aspects to the hobby one tends to specialise in one subject. It could be buildings-wildlife - portrait- still life to name but a few.

I also am leaning toward video work as well which is a completely different ball park

Foe example you just could not get this the same with just photographs
Taken hand held
( you always get someone who does not respect others taking pictures like this woman after I had been waiting a lot longer for the best view)

Excellent Realspeed.
I would have borrowed one of the gladiators swords and chopped her bleeding arms off..
I enjoyed it never the less and would love to spend a day in an English town or village where they do jousting and peasants fighting against roundheads and the like. Trouble is no guarantee of the English weather is there.

Re: Hobbies

My favorite hobbies are taking pictures of my grandkids and dog. On my hubby's days off, we like to go to the mountains and play in the snow...just the simple things of life.
