One thing really get up my nose is a company bringing in a boss who knows nothing about the job. We had on straight from UNI at BT and I happened to be on his "team". He knew nothing about the problems one comes across as a switchboard fitter, all he was interested in was how quickly a job could be done. One just cannot do a decent job under pressure. Every job was timed irrespective of how difficult it may be a he was real a*sehole.20+ years doing the job and he comes along and tells me how to do it.

Hah. I remember being taught to be a telephonist on one of those old plug-in switchboards, Tabs.
Memory's a bit hazy but I think after that we moved on to a plasticy thing with switches you pushed backwards and forwards instead.

Some of those old folk I really loved, and at times I would get too upset if one of my favourites passed on.
I remember one old chap who was 101. I loved him like my own grandad. So you see, I missed the residents there, as well as the staff.
There wasn't a day went past where we didn't have a good laugh about something in our break, they were a great bunch, and with having no one there when I got home as well, it suddenly seemed a very quiet life.
I know you love your running Foxy, but that is a solitary hobby. Have you ever considered doing something else as well, something where you have more people to chat to and have a laugh with? That's what I did, else I'd have gone bonkers on my own 24/7.
There's a local rambling club I've been meaning to find out more about Mups....

And then some very interesting customers when I was a courier and then a postie......Could tell you some stories...
